For those first heady months, there were stories everywhere. This Chinese restaurant was infested with mice, this rural eatery was shut down for constant non-compliance. Nine years later, not so much. We’ve got some catching up to do.

A new building and a fresh stock of books apparently wasn’t enough to get the idea that the big glass building on Spring Garden is open for business in the 21st century, so it’s time yet again to roll out a big ol’ rebranding campaign for the Halifax Public Library.

If you watch YouTube, Vice-Admiral Mark Norman — who up until last week was the second-most powerful man in the Canadian Forces — seems like a swell guy.
In a series of self-promoting videos produced and posted by the Royal Canadian Navy, Vice-Adm. Norman explains himself to his people. You know, his people... the citizens (that’s me and you) and all the guys and gals in the Navy.
I’d just turned 18 when I visited Europe for the first time. That was back in March of 1971.
My high school had organized the jaunt and opened it up for students who A) had passing grades and B) could afford to pay the freight. Upon hearing of it, my best friend and I, both of us in the habit of recognizing a potential adventure when we saw one, signed up immediately.
