After making his way to the front of the cramped ballroom at the Marriott Harbourfront Hotel with the help of a party toiler, the Rev. Gary Burrill paused before stepping up to the podium to address the gathered throng on election night.
“Is Howard here?” he asked a helper off to stage left, eyeing the crowd anxiously.
