NDP speaks re: candidate's vacation

by Andrew Douglas

In my rush to deadline last Friday, comment from NDP leader Gary Burrill's press secretary on their vacationing candidate in Cole Harbour-Eastern Passage, Nancy Jakeman, went unnoticed in my inbox.

"We are aware that our candidate is away on a personal vacation," Melanie Richer said via email on May 12.

"This shows the importance of implementing fixed election dates. Important family events and life events that are planned for months in advance by candidates or Nova Scotians cannot just be cancelled simply because the government decides to call an election from one day to the next to suit their own political agenda."

Nancy, who represents her district on the Halifax Regional School Board, flew out of Halifax for Montego Bay on May 8, and was back in Halifax Monday night.
