Yet another bright light in our local media community is gone. Harv Stewart died on April 26.
I first met Harv while he was toiling with one of the Halifax radio stations and Eastlink Community television. He and Cecil Wright stormed the Eastlink airwaves with a lively sports show that was a hit with the viewers.
The first thing I remember knowing
Was a lonesome whistle blowing
And a young uns dream of growing up to ride
On a freight train leaving town
Not knowing where I’m bound
No one could change my mind, but Mama tried.
Before I get going on HLLIFLX Transit may I point out a couple of things. HLLIFLX Transit is a misnomer.
I’m not a connoisseur, but I love wine. It doesn’t have to be vintage wine at $50 a bottle. It can be inexpensive wine from France or Italy or any of the wine growing regions in Australia, South Africa, South America or Europe. It can be red or white or even rose. And, it could be from Canada.
How racist was New Glasgow, my hometown, back in Viola Desmond’s day? Well, it wasn’t just the Roseland Theatre that had rules restricting blacks.
