I went through a McDonald’s drive through the other day (yes, I like their fries) and the young woman on the other end of the speaker said: Would you like to try our poutine today? 

No, I said, and continued on to advise the nice young woman that poutine is a heart attack waiting to happen. There was dead silence for a moment, but she soon recovered: “What can I help you with today?”

My family came from Scotland in 1773. A young man named Alexander Cameron arrived in Pictou on the Dutch ship Hector, and settled in the new land. He was too young to have fought in the Jacobite rebellion which ended with the Battle of Culloden in 1745.

I just spent 10 wonderful days in Britain. The people are wonderful. The tourist infrastructure is second to none. Their highways are clean and well kept, even though they drive on the wrong side of the road.
