MacNeil has written at least three books with significant Halifax content and themes: two novels and his memoir Wordstruck. The novels constitute the most searching and comprehensive fictional take we currently have of Halifax history and society.

Many believe that our current first past the post electoral system, where you win if you have just one vote more than any of your opponents, is a serious flaw in our democratic system.
